Athena – a classic schooner for modern times – is propelled under sail by natural winds, under power by man-made machines. She is graceful, majestic, living proof that a private luxury yacht exists for one outstanding purpose: to fulfill every guest’s dream of adventure on the open sea or leisure in a safe harbor.
She was drawn by Pieter Beeldsnijder, who conceived the art, and Dykstra Naval Architects, who enhanced the science. Together with the Royal Huisman shipyard, they created a “contemporary classic” yacht whose design goes beyond ordinary naval architecture, to reach extraordinary heights of power and beauty.
Outside designed for life at sea - Athena was designed to place guests in intimate contact with sea and sky . . . and with each other. She is meant to be enjoyed on deck, in the great outdoors, as she plies the world’s oceans or moors in intimate harbors. She embodies freedom in every sense.
Freedom, of course, means carrying all the essential ingredients for perfecting life’s greatest recipe: the warmth of family and friends enjoying sun, sea, rest, and reflection together. Athena is thus fully equipped to provide all the genuine comforts of home.
A great yacht’s decks are more than mere passageways. They are interfaces between two glorious environments: the natural sea in all its splendor, and the handcrafted interior in all its comforting intimacy.
Inside designed for living at sea - The key to creating that inviting, perfectly comfortable interior is to make it appear that it was not formally planned at all, but that it came together spontaneously and easily, because its every element was simply right for an ideal onboard experience.
Technology all the amenities - To enhance that experience, Athena was conceived as a tranquil universe of wood, metal, and warmth. But to assure the highest level of human contentment, she is brimming with technology to further assure power and light, entertainment and refreshment, navigation and safety.
To make the life aboard Athena utterly gratifying – not merely agreeable – machinery of every sort and description is needed. Collectively, and often well out of view, it silently supplies, distributes, monitors, and controls enormous energy to transform a great fuel supply into everyday pleasures and necessities. Of course, it is also machinery that drives Athena across oceans and into safe harbors, making her, surely, a classic schooner for modern times.
Like the great metropolis of New York, Athena is “a city that never sleeps,” though her guests may do so occasionally. So, through crew, machinery, and above all automation, Athena is forever responding to changes in her own environment, to make life aboard nothing less than perfect.
